Overview

There are no shops along this section so ensure that you have sufficient food and liquid for this stage.

This is a very pleasant and easy walk from Kelso Abbey that follows the River Teviot along its banks and onto an old railway line. Leave both behind to continue on the Roman Road of Dere Street and onto a quite lane to Jedburgh. The final stages take the walker along the Jed Water and then the High Street to reach Jedburgh Abbey and the end of the stage.

Walk Description :

1 - With the abbey gates behind you turn left to walk away from the town centre. Cross over the River Tweed and follow the road to then cross over the River Teviot which will be followed most of the way to Jedburgh.

2 - After cross over the river turn left to continue along the riverside path. Briefly leave the river to reach a tarmac road and turn left into Roxburgh. At a small white building on the right, turn left (signed B A W) to return to the river path.

3 - Pass underneath the viaduct and continue by the river before leaving it to continue on a disused railway line to reach a road. Turn left and then right by Kirkbank station to continue once more on the old railway line to reach a road.

4 - Turn left to cross the river and then right to continue on the railway line but this section is not too clear and sections had been damaged when walked in early 2016. Following the river maybe an easier option. After the river path turns right turn left onto the track between two fields before the river turns left. At the end of the field on the right, turn right and then left along a tree lined track / railway line to reach the main road - A698.

5 - Turn right, then left (don’t cross over the river) and left again to continue on the old Roman Road of Dere Street. At the end of the second field on the right, turn right past the mast to reach a small road. Keep left to arrive at the A68 road at Jedburgh.

6 - Cross and through the gate and along the river Jed Water path to a T-junction. Turn right and then cross over the Jed Water, along Bridge Street to a T-junction. Turn right along the High Street and after the pedestrian crossing, second left Abbey Place and then immediately right, through the archway, signed - Entrance to Bridewell jail, and then left to reach the Jedburgh Abbey and the end of the stage.
