Borders Abbeys Way

abbey monk The Borders Abbeys Way is a 105.8 km / 65.5 mile circular walk over five days in the Scottish Borders. This journey connects the spectacular abbeys of Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh all of which are in various states of ruin, but don't let that deter you as each abbey has something special to offer, so you won't be disappointed. Kelso Abbey is the only one which is free to enter and is the least complete of them all.

Along the way pass through breathtaking rolling countryside, and along river paths in the shadows of Roman soldiers who once marched along Dere Street. Meander through woodland and directly on old railway lines. The whole route is well marked and easy to follow.

It is possible to shorten stage 1 by staying at Dryburgh Abbey Hotel.  All stages have excellent public transport links so it is possible to complete the whole journey over any period of time.
